Roulette

Roulette may look very complicated at first glance but if you really take the trouble to look into it you will soon see that it is a very simple game. What can be more complicated than placing a bet on a number and waiting for the ball to drop in your slot?

Roulette, obviously a French word was invented many years ago. The whole basic strategy is that you guess the slot where the ball is going to fall into. The different slots have been given a number so that you know what you have bet on. This is a very simple way of explaining the game but looking at the facts this is what it boils down to. The only reason it gets complicated is that there are very many different ways of betting:

Straight up: a chip is placed on one number, payout is 35 times your bet
Split: a chip is placed on the line between two numbers beside each other, you are then betting on two numbers with one chip, payout is 17 times your bet.
Street: a roulette table is split up into 12 horizontal rows of 3, a street. If you place a chip on the right of a street you will bet on the three numbers in that street, payout is 11 times your bet.
Corner: a chip is placed at the corner of four different numbers, you are betting on four different numbers that are all beside each other, payout is 8 times your bet.
Six-line: a chip that is placed on the corner and at the end of two streets, payout is 5 times your bet.
Column: the roulette table is also split up into three columns left, middle and right. You place your bets at the bottom of the table under the numbers 34, 35 or 36. If you place under the 36 then you cover all the numbers in that column, payout is 2 times your bet.
Low numbers: a chip is placed in the area where “1-18” is printed, you are betting on all the numbers from 1 to 19, payout is 1 times your bet.
High numbers: a chip is placed in the area where “19-36” is printed, you are betting on all the numbers from 19 to 36, payout is 1 times your bet.
Even: a chip is placed in the area where “even” is printed, you are betting on all the even numbers, payout is 1 times your bet.
Odd: a chip is placed in the area where “odd” is printed, you are betting on all the odd numbers, payout is 1 times your bet.
Red: you bet on all the red numbers.
Black: you bet on all the black numbers.
1st 12: this is the section on the table with the printed text “1st 12”. If you place a chip here you are betting on the first dozen, 1-12, payout 2 times your bet.
2nd 12: this is the section on the table with the printed text “2nd 12”. If you place a chip here you are betting on the second dozen, 13-24,payout 2 times your bet.
3rd 12: this is the section on the table with the printed text “3rd 12”. If you place a chip here you are betting on the third dozen, 25-36,payout 2 times your bet.

As you can see there are many different ways of betting at a roulette table. If you are new to the game the just stand and watch other people to get familiar with it, you will soon start to see how it works and what the different payouts are.
